West
Riding County F.A. Challenge Trophy Competition
Otley Town Reserves 2
Oxenhope Recreation Reserves 1
Otley Town Reserves defeated Oxenhope Recreation Reserves of
Keighley in the West Riding
County F.A. Challenge Trophy Semi Final
at the County F.A. ground at Woodlesford on Wednesday 21st. March
07
The football that both sides played and the spirit in which the
game was
played was a credit
to both sides.
Otley had the better of the first half and should have been more
than one
goal in the lead at the interval. That goal coming from JOE
HENDRIE,
the son of the former Bradford City and Leeds United player in
the
15th. minute.
In the second half Otley may have gone further ahead but the main
reason
for them not doing so was the superb display throughout the game
of the
Oxenhope goalkeeper. The Keighley side came a lot more into the
game
and indeed were on top for at least 20 minutes in the second half
but the
Otley defence played magnificently and the whole side
worked
tremendously hard throughout the game. Just when it seemed that
the only
goal would decide the game Oxenhope scored the goal that their
play
deserved at that stage in the game, in the 85th. minute they drew
level
with a cross shot from the left.
It seemed that the game was destined for extra time but in the
89th. minute
Otley got the win that overall they deserved and it came from a
brilliant
strike for the edge of the penalty area from young
substitute
SCOTT FIRTH,
who had shown his paces down the left hand side
following his introduction to the game in the 75th. minute. His
tremendous
shot was deflected by a defender but it seemed from leaving his
foot it was
on target for the net. Scott has played for the Wharfedale F.A.
Minor side
this season
This was a great display from Otley and many of the players stood
out
and one thing is for sure, there must be some good players in the
first team
to keep some of these lads out! Oxenhope could say the same as
this was
no lump it up the middle football match, it was a treat to watch
and all
the players and match officials (Des Doughty from Castleford and
his
assistants) should be congratulated for making this game so
special.
Otley Town will now play Beeston St. Anthony's
Reserves in the Final.
The Final will take place on Friday the 27th. April 2007 at the
CountyF.A.
ground at Woodlesford. Kick Off 7.30pm.
Northern Counties Youth Championship
West
Riding County F.A. 2
East Riding County F.A. 1
Played at Fleet Lane, Woodlesford on Wednesday 14th March 2007.
The West Riding County F.A. Under 18 side won the Division Two
title of the Northern Counties Youth Championship in a hard
fought
game at Fleet Lane, Woodlesford by 2 goals to 1 against East
Riding.
As expected the East Riding side battled to the end but goals by
Thomas Dibb of Silsden, who saw his shot deflected off a defender
into the net and then a strike by Paddy Miller of Farsley Celtic
were
enough to win the game for the hosts. Even then following a
rash
tackle by Scott Walton in
the last few minutes which resulted in
East Riding scoring from the penalty spot, it made an
uncomfortable
end to the game for West Riding.
The East Riding goalkeeper Adam Nicklin had an outstanding game
for his side and kept the West Riding at bay with some superb
saves.
West Riding will be promoted to Division One next season and so
will East Riding provided they do not lose to Northumberland
in
their last game.
Winning the Division means that West Riding will play at home
against
Durham, the side that
finished in second place in the First Division,
in the Competition play off's for the Northern Counties
Championship.
This game will be played at Fleet Lane, Woodlesford on Saturday
the
31st. March 2007.
The team winning Division One, Lancashire, will be at home to
either
East Riding or Northumberland.
The teams winning the Semi Finals will then play in the Final.
The F.A. County Youth Cup
Semi Final
(Match Replayed)
Leicestershire
& Rutland County F.A. 0
West Riding County F.A. 2
Played at Holmes Park, Leicester on Saturday 10th. March 2007.
Kick Off 2.00 p.m.
In the replayed game the West Riding came out on top by 2 goals to Nil.
It proved to be a difficult game to win as Leicestershire F.A.
battled
hard given the second chance to reach the Final.
Goals in the 58th. minute by substitute Joe
Barker of Farsley Celtic and
then to relieve the pressure in the last few minutes when
Leicestershire
really put their foot on the pedal, Thomas
Dibb of Silsden A.F.C. in the
88th. minute.
The whole squad have had a brilliant season and that can be made
even
better if they defeat East Riding County F.A. in their last
Northern
Counties league game tonight,
Wednesday 14th. March 2007.
Kick Off 7.30pm. at the
County F.A. ground at Woodlesford.
If they win they will take the Division 2 title after being
relegated last
season and go back into the First Division next term.
Being in the first 2 positions in Division One and Two means that
you
go into the play Off's, a Semi Final and Final.
The team that wins the Final takes the Northern Counties
Championship
Trophy.
John Riordan the Manager has made John Gardiner his Assistant
and
Coach this season and he has done magnificently with the squad
and
spent hours out on the County ground with the players.
Let us hope that all his hard work and that of the players will
bring the
due reward at the end of a very hard season. Well done to all
concerned.
The F.A. County Youth Cup
Semi Final
Leicestershire
& Rutland County F.A. v West Riding County F.A.
At Holmes Park, Leicester on Saturday 10th. March 2007.
Kick Off 2.00 p.m.
Having
already booked a place in the F.A. County Youth Cup Final, West Riding
will now have to do it all again after an F.A. hearing deemed
that the Semi Final game
against Leicestershire & Rutland F.A. must be replayed.
An F.A. Youth Sub Committee met on Thursday the 1st. March 2007
at Soho Square
to consider a protest received.
After hearing representations from both parties the decision of
the Sub Committee was
that West Riding were in breach of the rules and, therefore, the
protest was upheld.
The Sub Committee, however, took into account information
supplied by the
West Riding F.A and decided that the tie should be replayed.
The game has now been arranged for Saturday the 10th. March 2007
at Leicester.
Kick Off 2.00 p.m.
The winners will have a home game against
Suffolk F.A. in the Final.

On the way
down to Leicester the Team Manager John Riordan read a good
luck message sent to the team by Bruce Speller on behalf of all
Officials and
Players of Guiseley A.F.C. This was excellent and very much appreciated.
Great credit
must go to the management team, the afore mentioned
John Riordan and his Assistant and Coach John Gardiner who has done a
remarkable job this season.
The Physio's
are Ronnie Fisher and Brian Clegg.
They have also a fine Team Captain in Sean Airey of Silsden A.F.C.
As well as
playing in the F.A. National knockout competition they also play in
the Northern Counties Youth Championship and are progressing well in
their
efforts to win the League.
Tony
Vento of the Guiseley A.F.C. Under 19 side who also plays for
Ventus
United Youth on a Sunday is in this strong West Riding County F.A.
