The
Final played at Guiseley A.F.C. Nethermoor, Otley Road, on
May
Day Monday morning, the 5th. May 2008.
A bumper May Day Monday morning crowd at Nethermoor, the ground of
Guiseley A.F.C.
saw an ANDY CARLTON
goal in the 3rd. minute of injury time win this closely fought game
in the Wharfedale F.A. Resource Print Solutions Challenge Cup.
The biggest crowd for very many years thought the game was going into extra time
before
Carlton was given the chance at the edge of the penalty area, to
control the ball, turn away from
defenders and put the ball past the goalkeeper with superb control.
The Guiseley Club and ground staff deserve much credit for getting
the ground fit for play for
both the Sunday Final last Friday night and Challenge Cup Final
following all the rain.
Otley Town have now done a great double, winning the Wharfedale F.A. Challenge
Cup and
the West Yorkshire League Division One title this season. They will look forward
to playing
in the Premier Division next Season.
All the spectators who attended the Finals have to be congratulated, their
support was very
much appreciated.

The Penalties taken by both sides

Both Clubs are complimented on
their sportsmanship and the way they conducted themselves on
the night, they were a credit to their respective Leagues, their Clubs and the
players and officials
themselves. Many thanks from the Wharfedale F.A.
Many thanks also to Guiseley A.F.C. as mentioned below and to everyone who
supported this game
at such short notice after the previous nights game was postponed and
re-scheduled for the following
night.
We must also thank the Match Officials for doing
a first class job, the Referee Reid Haddow, and his
Assistant Referees Ian R. Clapham and Tony McGowan, ably supported by 4th.
Official Ian Metcalf
who couldn't get the spare balls onto the pitch quick enough!! Very many thanks
to them all.
We must thank the Guiseley
A.F.C. ground staff, Brian and Bob inparticular
for the work they have done in getting rid of the "LAKE" which was the
ground
on Thursday. Very many thanks to all concerned and to Michael Hill for all
his
brilliant communicating with
us.
It is so frustrating to everyone, Guiseley A.F.C., the Wharfedale F.A. and the
Clubs and Players,
not to mention the Spectators. Thank you for your patience.
